5 Things You Should Never Do When Selecting Bridal Jewellery

Your wedding is, of course, all about the vows you take with your beloved. Yet it is also your time to shine. All brides deserve to look and feel their very best during their weddings, and bridal jewellery can help you take your look to the next level. However, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the significance of the day and the never-ending to do lists, making it tough to make decisions. Here are 5 things you should never do when selecting your jewellery.

1. Wait Too Long

With so many things on the agenda, it is easy to put your jewellery decision off until the last minute. Yet waiting too long forces you to make snap decisions and leaves little time for changing your mind. Order your jewellery at least four weeks before the wedding. This allows you to try it on with your dress and ensure that you like the overall look. In addition, “wedding brain,” or decision fatigue, tends to become more and more pronounced the closer you get to your wedding. It is easier to consider your look with a critical eye when you are not exhausted and drowning in last-minute tasks.

2. Fear to Be Bold

Your wedding day is a great time to take risks and indulge in styles that you could not possibly wear every day. Most wedding dresses are big, fashion-forward, and slightly over the top, so you need jewellery that can hold its own. Now is the time to go for a large necklace that accentuates the neckline of your gown, or dangling earrings that won’t get lost in your hair. Even if you are normally the shy, quiet type, your wedding is your day to stand out and be noticed. Make sure you try the pieces you are considering with your dress, as even items that strike you as huge might be too small to be recognizable against an elaborately styled gown.

3. Overdo It

At the other end of the spectrum, some brides take it too far. You want to be the star of the show, and a wedding dress is already a bold option. Choose one piece of truly standout jewellery, and let the other items play a supporting role. A terrific sense of style is as much about editing the look into something cohesive as it is about choosing pieces you love. If you are unsure, ask a friend or loved one to shop with you. Select someone whose sense of style you admire and whose opinions you trust completely.

4. Leave Out Your Wedding Party

While your wedding is your big day, don’t forget about the supporting cast that makes it all possible. Jewellery is a wonderful way to thank your bridesmaids for their support and create a cohesive, unified look. Perhaps you could all wear the same earrings, or your bridesmaids could wear smaller versions of your chunky necklace. Be sure to remember the flower girl and both mothers. Choose pieces for them that blend well with, but do not necessarily match, your bridesmaids’ jewellery. Think about the men in your wedding party as well. Matching cufflinks, tie tacks, or other items can create a dapper look that works with the style you selected for the women.

5. Ignore Your Wedding Style and Theme

In some ways, a wedding is a giant, carefully orchestrated theatrical production. Every item that you bring in, from the table settings to the lighting, should help tell the story that you have chosen. Your bridal jewellery is no exception. If your dress and theming are Victorian, ultra-modern earrings would be an odd, jarring choice. Likewise, if your overall wedding style is sleek and contemporary, a cameo or other old-fashioned piece would look out of place. Carefully consider all aspects of your wedding style before making a final decision on your bridal jewellery.
